What is a Submentoplasty?
A submentoplasty is a type of neck lift procedure that’s often performed on younger patients to help improve the appearance of the neck. This neck tightening procedure can help improve the appearance of excess fat deposits and loose skin of the neck. Younger patients are often the best candidates for a submentoplasty, one with fat deposits in the neck region, and don’t have a lot of excess skin. A submentoplasty is often used to produce a tighter and youthful appearance in the neck region by removing excess fat and skin from under the chin and tightening the muscles. Creating a long lasting natural looking and sculpted neck and jawline, a submentoplasty is often done in roughly 45 minutes, making it a safe and quick procedure, and there is almost no pain.
Who is a Good Candidate for a Submentoplasty?
Not everyone is a good candidate for a submentoplasty. While this procedure is amazing, to achieve the best results, the proper patient type needs to be selected.
• Candidates should be in good health and between the ages of 18 and 70.
• Candidates with moderate loose skin
• Candidates with minimal jowls (the loose, fleshy part of the neck)
• Candidates with moderate fat
• Candidates with good underlying bony architecture
What is the Recovery Time?
After a submentoplasty, it is normal for some patients to experience some bruising and swelling after the procedure, and any discomfort can be controlled with medication. Typically, stitches are removed from the patient in seven days, and most patients are able to return to work after five to seven days.
